More than any other media, collage has given me the ability to layer together complex, rich, images in combination with text.I employ a wide range of formats and media from books to broadsides, mixed media collage and assemblage.
Biography
More than any other media, collage has given me the ability to layer together complex, rich, images in combination with text. As a calligrapher I have always been in love with words, as an artist I have always communicated with imagery. Now I can marry the two much in the way ancient manuscripts did. Most of my work incorporates images of angels, women, my family, botanical and historical images, blended with my own text and sence of spirituality.
Mary Lawler is a graduate of The New England School of Art & Design, Boston. She currently lives and paints in her studio in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
For 30 years, Lawler has successfully combined her love of hand lettered forms with her skill as a graphic designer for non-traditional books, commercial applications, decorative arts, and commissions.
She designs paper craft projects,and teaches mixed media techniques for brand name international paper and art suppy companies.
