Jerry Wilson is a self-taught sculptor working primarily in stone. His work is strongly influenced by the "primitive style" of aboriginal peoples, especially the Inuits and Iroquois of Canada. From them he learned to "listen to the stone, it will tell you what's inside." Ergo, he works primarily in stone, utilizing the "direct carving" technique
