Photographer

I want to convey a spirit, through simplicity; I want to show visually how relationships become important. My work is partially highly technical; however, the spirit behind the work is virtual sub consciousness. The eye of my lens is science and art, to create a clear unity.

Biography

The longer I study the art of photography, the more I find out how much I don't know. And to whom we owe the credit for ways of seeing, behind the lens. When I started behind a camera, I believed that just a photographer's energy and enthusiasm would make me an "artist". But this is not the case, so from those early years on, I have focused on methodologies of great artists' expressions of photography. I became highly impressed with the F/64 group and their ideological approach toward photography back in the 1930's.

I began to see that my goal as an artist was to "express", and not "message". I began to look for relationships, and not static objects. One of my earlier images that I always felt good about I like because of the relationships that exist among the other elements. I began to strive for an image that I feel is emotionally and technically correct.

From that point in my career, I began to think less about capturing a scene, and think more about capturing and interpreting a mood, visually. But that's where it became challenging for me as an artist. The mood and feeling of an image is the essence of the photograph that can be lost in interpretation. Complexity seemed to be the natural demon of this process. I focused my thoughts to convey a spirit, as simple as possible.

Although I am speaking about thoughts in focus, this naturally leads to simplicity in composition. I kept compositions simple to create a clear unity for maximum effect. Letting that become second nature, a subconscious way of thinking, gave me greater control over artistic expression in my work and in my thoughts. Sometimes photographers come up against a big fact as artists: the theory of photography comes in many layers.

My role as an artist is to convey my point photographically with the end result of letting the viewer see how things affect me. It came down to focusing what I was ultimately interested in doing with my art. You can limit yourself unnecessarily. Knowing this, an artist can let his own interpretation take over.
