- The Visual Arts Resource Manual (VARM), was created to assist artisans of all types: contemporary artists, photographers, graphic artists, fine art craft artisans, fiber artisans, wood craftsmen, etc. The VARM will also help anyone who creates, displays, directs or uses photography, art or graphics, like : small businesses, entrepreneurs, self bossers, realtors, professional crafts organizations, historical societies, art & photo galleries, photo and art hobbyists. The Visual Arts Resource Manual is for the Do-It -Yourselfer Artisan ! Many contemporary artists do not realize they will need to use some form of photography or illustration to help them market and promote their art work. Everything in our society today is image driven and, sold using art illustrations or photographs. Even a can of soup or bottle of aspirin ! Artisans of all types must be educated or have some know-how about photography or the visual arts. Even if they subcontract those services out, they must know something about what they are buying. The VARM features visual arts and photographic related information, materials, services and business resources to help artisans run their businesses. The VARM will help the visual artisan spend less time searching for products and services that are related to your profession. The Author has researched and reviewed all of the products and services listed in the book and has used a quite a few of them himself. This will save the artisan a lot of time. If you sell your art, photography or fine art crafts at outdoor shows, trade shows or on the web, this book will pay for itself within the first year of use. Artisans must learn to comparison shop when looking for products and services for their businesses. The VARM features multiple sources to assist you with looking for the best prices and services. Some sources in the book are very unique and only one source may be available. Prices vary between manufacturers and various regions of the country. I feel artisans should not have to shop for products and services just located in their hometown or geographic region. With the Internet and fax machine they can do business any place in the world. I feel my book is quite unique, because of the mix of resources and many of the resources deal with the field of photography and the visual presentation of art. My book deals with presenting resources for the business side of the visual arts (running a business). The artisans who use my book must have a sense of adventure and curiosity. There is so much listed in the book. I have grouped resources together that go hand in hand. You should keep a note book or small journal of your favorite resources or use stickies on the pages or make notes in the back of the book. You will start to become a resource person with your friends and associates. The artisan will not only save money and time by using this book, but also earn more income by being empowered with the knowledge they develop from the resources in the book.
