Education and Work Experience

Barbara Groff, a Connecticut native, studied advertising design in 1961 at the Hartford Art school of the University of Hartford. Her required studies included basic, yet solid, fine art courses which today she credits to the development of her skills as a fine artist. Although primarily self educated, she continues to apply to her art those "building blocks" learned from her early studies. After leaving art school in 1962, she worked many years in various capacities at the P&WA Division of United Technologies; being promoted from Cartographer to Technical illustrator, and then senior graphic designer. In 1980 she left P&WA to work in a supervisory capacity for a graphic arts service company. After a successful career in the corporate world, she launched her own graphic design studio in 1982 producing promotional material for corporations throughout Connecticut. During the past several years the focus of her day has been devoted to her fine art. Her interest in photography and her many years as a designer has influenced her concepts and realist style of painting.
