Biography

I am a 40-year old Cuban-American artist living in Poughkeepsie, New York since 1991. My father, mother, two older siblings and I immigrated to the United States when I was 3 years old. I consider myself a Cuban-American, one who is very proud of his Cuban heritage and equally proud of my American citizenship. Perhaps, it is this duality that brings an additional dimension to my work, which I consider to be contemporary as well as insightful about my surroundings and me. I paint from my heart, which includes thoughts of hope, happiness, and in some instances, a bit of humor. Of course, inspiration for my work can come from many sources but it is important in art as well as in life, to stay true to oneself while establishing identity. To this end, I have designed uniquely welded and polished galvanized frames to further distinguish my work. This gives me the freedom to explore and experiment with different modes of painting while retaining my identity. I would like to thank my family for their love and support because of them I can create and have freedom and enjoyment in all I create.
