From my first watercolor class at age six and on through an artistic education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, I have always been enamored-intrigued-fascinated with the use of light not only as an illuminator of the work of art but also as an integral part of the work itself. After experimenting with op-art and various other traditional forms, it became clear to me that the only way to accomplish this desired effect was by using glass. Not only does the light shine upon the piece but also it comes through and out of the piece. Once the piece is fabricated, the piece and the light become one!
Creating stained glass art is an ancient skill that has been passed down from artisan to artisan since the Renaissance. After a long apprenticeship spent learning and experimenting with the techniques of stained glass art, I have been able to create my own signature work. Even though much of my work is functional, I strive to achieve a composition that rises above the status of simple craftsmanship and instead, maintains the tradition of artistic excellence that was passed down to me.
